In these elegant Nataraja Statues, the lord nataraja Shiva is shown as performing cosmic dance called 'Anandatandava,' meaning the Dance of Bliss. Nataraja Statues show lord dancing, with his left foot elegantly raised and the right foot on a prostrate figure — 'Apasmara Purusha', the personification of illusion and ignorance over whom Shiva triumphs.
The lower left hand of lord in the Nataraja Statue pointing to the uplifted leg in assurance that Shiva’s foot is a refuge for all true believers, and surrender to God is the path to liberation. Upper right hand holding the drum of creation in the Nataraja Statue beats the pulse of the universe and also music for Nataraja Shiva’s dance. Nataraja in his upper left hand, holds the fire of destruction.
The ring of fire around the Nataraja statue represents the manifestation of universe. Snakes that stand for egotism, are seen uncoiling from his arms, legs, and hair, which is braided and bejeweled.
Nataraja Statue is a popular sculptural symbol of Lord Shiva in India and often used to represent Indian culture. The skilled artists endeavour to bring this magnificient Nataraja Statue with all its traditional touch and glory. The bronze and the brass statues of Lord Nataraja are some of the grandest examples of Hindu art.
