Lord Vishnu - the second god of the Hindu triad is depicted as the preserver of the universe representing mercy and goodness. This painting depicts the laying posture of Lord Vishnu, on the coiled serpent Anantha. Mahavishnu sleeps on his bed of the great serpent Ananta, which is floating on the waters of the ocean of milk or ‘Kshirasamudra’. Plain colors are used for the ocean, serpent and the background which gives a contrast to heavily ornamented deity and detailed arch. The facial expression in the deity has been beautifully portrayed in the painting.
