Miniature paintings are renowned worldwide for their beauty, elegance and impeccable detailing. As the name signifies, Miniature paintings are an intricate colorful illumination painting, which is smaller in size and is executed meticulously with delicate brushwork on handmade paper.
They possess a language entirely their own. No written words can express their charm. The miniatures have a lyrical quality that enamors the mind and the soul. Most of the paintings are unique compositions on innumerable themes that are characteristic only of India.

Making of a Miniature Painting
It is not surprising that the creation of Miniature painting requires a great deal of skill, patience and imagination.
- Initially a design is chosen and drawn onto a trace paper.
Later it is copied into a rough cloth or handmade paper, using carbon
sheet.
- Human figures, animals
and other components of the picture are first painted. The background
is painted last to set each area's base color.
- Next
fine brushes are used to beautify the Floors, carpets, human figure
with intricate detailing. This also includes techniques like shading,
highlighting, washing.
- The
figures are outlined with a darker color and the jewellery is
highlighted using powdered gold to give it richness.
- Burnishing
is the last stage. The miniature art painting is laid face down on a
hard surface, and an agate stone is used to stroke it firmly. This
gives the painting a uniform texture. Then the painting is enclosed in
imported Italian flexi-glass and framed.
